| Reverse description | Tyche, the personification of fortune and civic prosperity, standing facing with head turned to the left, wearing a kalathos (modius-like basket crown) upon her head. She holds a rudder in her right hand, symbolising the guidance of fortune, and carries a cornucopia in her left arm, with stalks of grain and a poppy-head also present, emblematic of agricultural abundance. The reverse legend, arranged around the figure in the field, names the local strategos Damianos and celebrates Sardes' status as a twice-neocorate city, reflecting the city's pride in its imperial cult honours. |
