Obverse description Radiate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Severus Alexander facing left, depicted with a spear (held over the right shoulder) and a decorated oval shield visible from behind. The effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Mesopotamian civic coinage. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤΟ ΚΑΙϹ ΜΑΡ ΑΥΡ ϹΕ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor by his full imperial titulature. The bust type — radiate, armoured, with weapons — conveys a strong martial character appropriate to the reign's iconographic programme.
