Obverse description Draped bust of Julia Mamaea, diademed, facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of Epirote civic coinage of the Severan period. The hair is elaborately arranged with a diadem above the brow, and the drapery is visible at the shoulder and neck. The encircling Greek legend ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΜΑΜΑΙΑ ϹΕΒ identifies the empress as Augusta, mother of Severus Alexander. The flan is irregular in outline, consistent with hand-struck provincial bronze production.
