Reverse description Athena, the patron deity of Thyatira, depicted standing in full figure facing left, clad in chiton and aegis. She extends her right hand forward holding a patera in the act of libation, while her left hand grasps an upright spear; a large round shield rests on the ground at her side. The type reflects the city's strong cultic association with Athena, a common reverse motif for Thyatiran civic coinage of the Severan period. The ethnic legend ΘΥΑΤΕΙΡΗΝΩΝ is disposed around the field, identifying the issuing community.
