The figure to the left holds a cubit rule (measuring rod), while the figure to the right holds a bridle; a wheel appears at the feet of one of the Nemeses. The composition reflects the well-established iconographic type of the Double Nemesis, closely associated with the city of Smyrna, where the cult of the twin Nemeses was particularly venerated. The reverse legend naming the strategos Rufinus runs around the design within a beaded border. |
