Obverse description Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Philip II facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter back view employed by provincial die-cutters of the period. The portrait renders the emperor's youthful features with a short-cropped hairstyle, the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder visible beneath the cuirass. The encircling Greek legend names the emperor in the nominative case.

Additional information

Daldis was a small Lydian city whose civic coinage under Philip I leaned heavily on the authority of its Roman magistrates — the ΕΠ formula names the local strategos or archon responsible for the issue, here one Flavius Aischrion Preiskos, whose name appears across a small cluster of bronze issues from this reign. Philip's provincial bronzes from the Sardis conventus are modestly common as a class, but individual magistrate-linked issues like this one often survive in very limited numbers, the dies having served short runs before being retired or destroyed.
