Æ25 - Maximinus ΠΡΟΥϹΑΕΩΝ

Prusa ad Olympum sat at the foot of Mount Olympus in Bithynia and struck coins under Maximinus Thrax despite the emperor never visiting the eastern provinces — he spent his entire reign campaigning on the Rhine and Danube frontiers. The city's coinage during these years reflects a provincial administration operating largely on its own initiative, issuing bronzes to meet local transactional demand while Rome's political situation deteriorated around them.

Maximinus was the first emperor never to set foot in Rome during his reign. He was murdered by his own troops outside Aquileia in 238, the same year the Senate recognized no fewer than five rival claimants.
