Reverse description The Capitoline she-wolf strides to the right across a ground line, her head turned back to the left to suckle the twin infants Romulus and Remus, who are depicted beneath her. The composition closely follows the canonical Lupa Romana iconographic type, evoking the legendary foundation of Rome and asserting the colony's Roman identity. The colonial abbreviation legend appears around the periphery and in the exergue. The reverse field is unadorned, with the ground line clearly defined beneath the wolf.
