| Reverse description | A complex sacrificial scene rendered in the local Ilian tradition. To the left, the celebrated archaic cult statue of Athena Ilias stands atop a short column, facing right, wearing a kalathos (cylindrical headdress) and depicted holding a transverse spear and a spindle, attributes reflecting her role as patron of the city. To the right, a cow is shown suspended from a tree, and a man perched in the branches grasps her horn while slaughtering her with a knife, evoking a ritual sacrifice closely associated with the religious practices of Ilium. The reverse legend ΙΛΙΕΩ appears in the field, identifying the mint city. |
