| Beschrijving keerzijde | The emperor Macrinus stands in full figure facing left, clad in military attire, extending his right hand holding a patera over a small lighted and garlanded altar situated to the left of the figure, while his left hand rests upon a long scepter. The sacrificial scene is depicted in the typical provincial Moesian style, with the altar rendered with decorative garlands and an open flame above. The Greek legend of the consular legate Statius Longinus and the civic authority of Nicopolis ad Istrum is distributed around the reverse field. The composition follows the standard sacrificial type employed at the Nicopolis ad Istrum mint during the Severan period. |
