| Beschrijving keerzijde | Dionysus stands facing with head turned to the left, clad in a short chiton, holding a cantharus in his raised right hand and resting his left arm upon a thyrsus. At his feet to the left crouches a panther, the god's sacred animal, rendered as an attribute of the Dionysiac cult. The composition reflects the prominence of Dionysus as a civic deity at Heraclea Pontica. The reverse legend, distributed in the field around the figure, identifies the issuing city. The style is characteristic of provincial bronze coinage of the Severan period. |
