The title ΜΕΙΛΗΤΟϹ ΚΤΙϹΤΗϹ — "Founder of Miletos" — awarded to Hadrian by Miletopolis reflects the city's deliberate bid for imperial favor through flattery of mythological dimensions. Hadrian's energetic touring of the eastern provinces during the 120s and 130s made such honorifics a practical currency: cities that positioned him as a divine founder or benefactor could expect benefactions, tax relief, or elevated civic status in return. Whether Miletopolis received anything concrete for the compliment is unrecorded.
