Sala was a small Lydian city in the Hermus valley whose civic coinage under Hadrian reflects the broader explosion of Greek imperial bronzes that followed his accession — Hadrian's philhellenic policy actively encouraged provincial cities to mint, and many smaller Lydian centers seized the opportunity to place their city name before a Roman emperor for the first time. The conventus of Sardis administered a cluster of these towns, and their issues were locally produced rather than struck at any imperial facility.
The reference III#2440 places this within the standard corpus of Lydian civic bronzes, a series where die-sharing between neighboring cities is not uncommon and occasionally complicates attribution.
