| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed in three-quarter rear view, a convention characteristic of later provincial Roman coinage. The effigy displays the emperor's youthful features, with the laurel wreath encircling the head and the paludamentum draped over the cuirassed shoulders. The Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery of the flan, framing the portrait within a dotted border. The overall style is consistent with the civic bronzes struck at Smyrna during the reign of Gordian III. |
