Reverse description A tetrastyle temple depicted in frontal elevation, its four columns framing a cult statue of Tyche standing within the cella. The goddess Tyche is shown holding a rudder in one hand and a cornucopia in the other, emblematic of fortune and abundance. The legend ϹΜΥΡ Γ ΝΕ ΕΠ ΜΕΝΕΚΛΕΟΥϹ encircles the design, identifying the city of Smyrna as thrice neocorate and naming the local magistrate Menekles under whose authority the coin was struck. The architectural rendering is characteristic of the neocorate temple types produced by the major Ionian civic mints during the Severan and Gordian periods.
