Additional information

Cyme, one of the oldest Greek foundations on the Aeolian coast, retained the right to strike civic bronze under Roman imperial oversight through the third century — a privilege that was far from guaranteed as central authority tightened under the Severans and their successors. The Hermos river, which drained the Lydian interior and had carried trade goods from as far as Sardis for centuries, remained the economic artery that justified Cyme's continued civic identity and, with it, its coinage.

The reference VII.1#285.1 places this within the Requier corpus for Aeolian Cyme, a relatively thin sequence for the Gordian III period.
