Obverse description Bare, diademed head of the Roman Senate personified, facing right, with long flowing hair rendered in a classical Hellenistic style. The legend ΙΕΡΑ ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ (Sacred Senate) is disposed around the portrait in the field. The portrait is rendered with individualized facial features consistent with the personification of the Senate as used in provincial Greek coinages of the Severan and Gordian periods.
