| Reverse description | The Great God (Theos Megas) of Odessos stands facing left in full figure, rendered in the syncretic Pontic deity type closely associated with this mint. The deity holds a patera in his extended right hand over a flaming altar at his feet, while his left hand bears a cornucopia, symbolising abundance. The encircling ethnic legend ΟΔΗϹϹΕΙΤΩΝ, reading around the periphery, identifies the issuing city. The reverse type is characteristic of the civic bronze coinage of Odessos and reflects the prominent local cult of the Great God. |
