Reverse description Dionysus, the principal deity of Teos and its renowned wine cult, is depicted seated to the left upon a throne or rock. The god holds a cantharus (wine cup) in his extended right hand and a thyrsus (the ivy-tipped staff sacred to Dionysus) in his left. The composition is typical of Teian civic coinage of the Imperial period, emphasizing the city's religious identity. A Greek legend naming the local strategos and the civic ethnikon encircles the design. The surface is worn and encrusted, though the main figural elements remain identifiable.
