The motif is rendered in bold relief, characteristic of provincial Roman hammered bronzes of the late Republican period. The Latin legend EX D D appears in the lower field, an abbreviation for Ex Decreto Decurionum, indicating the coin was issued by decree of the town council of the Roman colony of Sinope. The overall composition is compact and well-centred despite the irregular flan. |
