| Obverse description | Laureate, draped bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, with layered hair rendered in fine radiating lines and paludamentum visible at the truncation. The effigy is portrayed in the conventional Roman imperial manner, with a slightly youthful countenance consistent with the emperor's early reign. The encircling Greek legend runs along the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his adopted Antonine nomenclature. The portrait displays characteristic provincial workshop execution, with bold relief against a plain field. |
