A figure, tentatively identified as the emperor, stands erect on the stern facing right. The reverse legend ΝΕΙΚΟΠΟΛΕωϹ is disposed around the periphery, referencing the mint city of Nicopolis in Epirus. The galley type is a well-attested civic motif on Nicopolis bronzes, evoking the maritime heritage of the colony founded by Augustus. |
