| Beschrijving keerzijde | Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, stands in full figure facing left, draped in a long chiton and himation in the typical provincial Lydian style. She holds in her extended right hand a poppy head and two ears of grain, emblems of her dominion over agriculture and fertility, while her left hand bears a long vertical sceptre. The ethnic legend of the issuing city appears in the right field, partially encircling the reverse type. The composition reflects the standard iconographic programme of Demeter as civic deity favoured by the cities of the Lydian conventus during the Severan period. |
