Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Caracalla facing right, rendered in the Roman provincial style typical of the Troad mint. The imperial portrait displays the characteristic youthful features of Caracalla's early reign, with a finely detailed laurel wreath crowning the head. The legend M AVREL ANTONIN runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full Antonine name. The flan is irregular in form, consistent with provincial hammered coinage of the early third century AD.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering M AVREL ANTONIN
