Over his left shoulder he carries a wineskin, referencing his association with wine and revelry. The figure stands upon a rectangular base or plinth, a common artistic convention in provincial coinage of Alexandria Troas where the cult statue of Marsyas held civic significance. The reverse legend COL AVG TROAD is disposed around the field, identifying the Roman colonial status of the mint city. |
