Sicca Veneria, the Numidian city in the upper Bagradas valley (modern El Kef in Tunisia), was among the municipalities that issued local bronze under Augustus and Tiberius, exploiting the latitude Rome granted to provincial towns to produce small-denomination coinage for local exchange. The abbreviated magistrate names on this issue — the duoviri responsible for the emission — are not individually identified in surviving records, which is typical for Siccan bronze of this period.
The dating to AD 10 places this squarely in the final years of Augustus, four years before his death at Nola.
