| Beschrijving keerzijde | Full-length figure of Asclepius, the god of medicine and healing, standing facing with head turned to the left. The deity is draped in a himation and holds his distinctive serpent-entwined staff (the kerykeion of Asclepius) vertically in his right hand, with the coiled serpent clearly rendered. The surrounding Greek inscription dedicates the coin to Asclepius as saviour on behalf of the citizens of Nicaea, reflecting the strong cult of the healing god in Bithynia. |
