Reverse description Nude figure of Poseidon standing, facing right, with his left foot raised and resting upon a rock. The god holds a trident upright in one hand and a dolphin in the other, attributes emblematic of his dominion over the sea. This type is characteristic of the civic coinage of Abydus, a coastal city on the Hellespont with strong maritime associations. The reverse legend, partially preserved, reads ] ΑΒΥΔΗ, denoting the city of the Abydans. The overall relief is worn, with details of the deity's musculature and attributes partially obscured by corrosion and surface wear.
