Obverse description Youthful, lightly bearded bare-headed bust of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, draped in paludamentum, facing right, seen from the centre. The portrait reflects the conventional idealized rendering of the young heir-apparent characteristic of provincial Lydian coinage under Antoninus Pius. The Greek legend Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙΟϹ ΟΥΗΡΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ encircles the bust, identifying the future emperor by his pre-accession name. The die work is typical of the Nysaean civic mint, rendered in a provincial Hellenistic idiom.
