Reverse description Three agonistic prize crowns arranged side by side in the field, the central crown adorned with two upright palm branches, while the flanking crowns each bear one or two palm branches. These crowns allude to the sacred games celebrated at Nicomedia in honour of the city's neocorate status. The reverse legend encircling the design proudly proclaims the thrice-neocorate honour of the Nicomedians, affirming the city's pre-eminent religious standing in the province of Bithynia. The composition is characteristic of civic provincial bronze coinage struck under joint imperial rule.
