| Beschrijving voorzijde | Confronted busts of co-emperors Valerian I and Gallienus facing one another, both radiate, draped, and cuirassed, occupying the left and right fields respectively. Between the two principal effigies, a smaller radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Saloninus (?) faces right, positioned centrally. The arrangement of the three imperial busts is a compositionally ambitious rendering characteristic of Bithynian civic coinage of the mid-third century AD. The encircling Greek legend identifies the three rulers by name and title. |
