The equestrian figure is rendered in the typical martial style of mid-third-century provincial bronzes, conveying imperial authority and military prowess. A small figure or trophy may be discernible beneath the horse's forelegs, though the strike is somewhat weak in that area. The Greek legend encircles the design in the field, proclaiming Nicomedia's twice-granted neocorate status. The reverse field retains an olive-brown patina with traces of green cuprite typical of Bithynian provincial issues. |
