The imperial effigy is rendered in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Bithynian civic coinage of the Severan period. The encircling Greek legend names the emperor in full around the bust.

Reverse description Artemis Phosphoros, the light-bearing aspect of the goddess Artemis, depicted standing facing with head turned to the left, her draped figure rendered in a frontal composition typical of Nicomedian civic bronze coinage. She holds an upright torch in each hand, referencing her role as bearer of light and her particular cultic prominence at Nicomedia. The encircling Greek legend in the field references the city's double neocorate status, a mark of civic prestige celebrating Nicomedia's role as twice-keeper of an imperial temple.
