Themisonium was a minor Phrygian city whose civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader surge in provincial bronze production that accompanied his reign — a period when dozens of small Asian cities seized on imperial accession as an opportunity to assert local identity through the mint. The city's name itself derives from the mythological founder Themison, and its coins are rare enough that die studies remain incomplete.
