Reverse description A male figure, tentatively identified as Septimius Severus, standing left in military dress comprising cuirass and paludamentum, extending a patera over a flaming altar to the left and holding a spear or sceptre in the left hand. The composition reflects the standard provincial honorific type associating the emperor with sacrificial piety. The Greek legend in the field names the city of Philomelium and the local magistrate Claudius Traianus, within a dotted border.
