Sebastopolis in Caria was a minor civic mint whose output under Septimius Severus coincided with one of the more turbulent imperial transitions of the third century's approach — the Year of the Five Emperors in 193 AD forcing provincial cities to quickly align themselves with whichever claimant looked most durable. Sebastopolis backed Severus early, and civic bronze issues from this window reflect that calculated loyalty.
The conventus of Alabanda administered several such small Carian mints, coordinating assizes that occasionally influenced local striking schedules more than imperial policy did.
