| Beschrijving keerzijde | Asclepius, the god of medicine, depicted standing facing with head turned to the left, clad in a long himation draped over his lower body. His left arm rests upon a tall serpent-entwined staff (the caduceus of Asclepius), a standard iconographic attribute of the healing deity. The civic legend ΙΩΝΟΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ is inscribed around the periphery of the field, identifying the issuing city of Ionopolis. The reverse reflects the strong cultic association of Ionopolis/Abonoteichos with the serpent-god Glycon, a local manifestation of Asclepius. |
