Scepsis was a minor Troad city whose claim to ancient fame rested largely on the story that Aristotle's library passed through it — reportedly hidden in a pit by heirs of Theophrastus before eventually reaching Rome via Sulla's looting of Athens. The city's bronze coinage under Severus was purely local in function, circulating within the Adramyteum conventus as small-denomination exchange with no pretension to wider reach. The magistrate abbreviation ΔΑΡ has not been firmly identified, which is not unusual for Troas civic bronzes of this period.
