Ancyra in Lydia — not to be confused with the Galatian capital — was a small conventus community whose civic coinage depended entirely on local magistrates funding issues from their own resources as an act of public euergetism. The magistrate name preserved here, Neikandros, appears on a tight cluster of Philip I bronzes from this mint, suggesting a single active tenure during Philip's five-year reign rather than a recurring office.
Philip came to power after arranging — or at minimum facilitating — the murder of Gordian III on campaign in Mesopotamia in 244.
