| Beschrijving keerzijde | The Agathodaemon serpent, the sacred protective deity of Alexandria, depicted erect and coiling to the right, its body forming a pronounced S-curve with the head raised prominently. Flanking the serpent are stalks of grain (ears of corn) and poppy heads, emblems of Egyptian fertility and abundance closely associated with the Alexandrian religious tradition. The regnal year date appears in the field. The type reflects the deeply syncretic religious iconography of Roman Alexandria, where the Agathodaemon served as a symbol of civic prosperity. |
