| Reverse description | A large Macedonian shield occupies the central field, rendered with a concentric dot-and-ring decorative motif on its boss and a wreath-like border detail around the rim of the shield, all enclosed within a beaded outer border. The circular Greek legend ΣEBAΣTOΣ MAKEΔONΩN runs around the periphery, identifying the issuing body as the Koinon of Macedonia and honoring the emperor as Augustus. The shield device is a traditional emblem of Macedonian identity, evoking the heritage of Alexander the Great and his successors, and is a recurring type on Koinon coinage of the Julio-Claudian period. |
