| Obverse description | Confronted busts of the Emperor Nero, laureate, to the right, and his third wife Statilia Messalina, draped, to the left, facing one another across the field in the characteristic vis-à-vis composition favoured by Lydian civic issues. The portrait of Nero displays the characteristic broad facial features and layered hair of his later coinage, while Messalina's effigy shows a diademed and draped bust rendered in the provincial style. A Greek legend arcs across the upper field, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. |
