| Reverse description | Demeter, the goddess of grain and harvest, seated on a high-backed throne and facing left, rendered in a stately, enthroned pose typical of Bithynian civic reverses. In her extended right hand she holds a long torch, and in her left hand she holds ears of corn, attributes emblematic of her divine role. The encircling Greek legend proclaims the civic pride of Nicomedia as a twice-neocorate city, a prestigious honorific title denoting the city's right to maintain two imperial cult temples. The field shows a patinated bronze surface with green encrustation consistent with age. |
