Reverse description The serpent Glycon depicted coiled in sinuous curves, its body rendered in multiple undulating loops filling the central field, surmounted by a distinctive bearded human head facing right — the characteristic iconography of the oracular serpent-god venerated at Abonuteichos. The legendary cult image is presented frontally against a plain field. The encircling Greek legend proclaims the twice-neocorate status of Nicomedia. The reverse type reflects the religious significance of the Glycon cult in the Bithynian region during the Severan period.
