正面描述 Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Maximus Caesar facing right, viewed from the front, with paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. A small round shield or boss appears to the left in the field. The portrait displays the youthful features characteristic of Maximus, with close-cropped hair rendered in fine parallel striations. The Greek legend runs clockwise around the periphery within a beaded border.

附加信息

Nicaea's civic bronze issues under Maximinus Thrax occupy an awkward political moment: the emperor was never recognized as legitimate by the Senate, yet provincial mints across Bithynia continued striking in his name without interruption. Maximinus never visited the eastern provinces, ruling entirely from military camps along the Rhine and Danube frontiers during his three-year reign.

The city's ethnic ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ identifies this as a civic rather than koinon issue, minted under local magistrates whose names, when recorded, occasionally appear on the reverse exergue of related types.
