Reverse description A tetrastyle temple depicted in frontal elevation, its four spirally fluted columns supporting an entablature rendered in perspective. Within the intercolumniation stands the cult statue of Dionysus facing left, holding a cantharus in his extended right hand and a long filleted thyrsos in his left. The composition reflects the civic pride of Nicaea in its local religious traditions, a common reverse type on Bithynian provincial bronze issues.
