Patras held the status of a Roman colony — Colonia Aroe Augusta Patrensis — since Augustus resettled it with veterans around 14 BC, which explains the COL A A PATR legend and the distinctly Latin character of its civic coinage in a predominantly Greek-speaking province. By the reign of Marcus Aurelius, the colony's mint was producing bronze for purely local exchange, with no backing from the imperial treasury. These civic bronzes circulated within the Peloponnese and rarely traveled far. The reference IV.1#7672 places this within the RPC Online framework for Greek Imperials.
