Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Marcus Aurelius facing right, rendered in the characteristic Antonine portrait style with a full, long beard composed of thick curling locks and wavy hair drawn back from the forehead. The emperor is depicted with the naturalistic physiognomic detail typical of provincial Greek coinage of the mid-second century AD. A partial Greek legend runs along the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor. The flan is irregular and the surface heavily patinated, partially obscuring fine detail.
