| Reverse description | Asclepius, the god of medicine, depicted standing facing with head turned to the left, rendered in a simple but recognizable provincial style. The deity is draped in a himation and holds his characteristic serpent-entwined staff (kerykeion-style rod) in his right hand, the serpent coiling upward around the shaft. The encircling Greek civic legend is distributed around the periphery of the field, identifying the issuing city. The type reflects the strong association of this Mysian city with healing cults during the Antonine period. |
