| Reverse description | The emperor, in military attire, is depicted on horseback galloping to the right, his raised arm brandishing a weapon as he attacks a lion crouching beneath the horse's forelegs — a compositional type evoking imperial virtus and hunting prowess. The figural group is rendered in the robust, somewhat schematic style typical of Carian provincial bronzes. The surrounding Greek legend in the field, partially illegible due to wear and corrosion, names the local magistrate (strategos) Alkimos and the civic ethnic of the Stratoniceans. The reverse field is deeply patinated with areas of encrustation that partially obscure the legend. |
